Hello everybody, Happy Monday and I hope you had a great weekend. For today’s post I want to share and have a conversation with you on a few tips on how we can be more sustainable and mindful when travelling. I’m not a role model or a do everything perfect in the green department, but I do my best and I learn along the way. I think is better a lot of people doing the imperfect thing than 1 doing the perfect way. So here are a few tips that I have been adopting while I travel, to be more sustainable and compensate.
Carry your own water bottle
This is great for 2 reasons, one you don’t have to use one-time plastic bottles and second is cheaper, because water at the airports can be very expensive. Most of airports have water fountains with drinkable water. Fill the bottle with tap water when safe. You can stay hydrated on your flights and during your trips.
Carry a reusable bag for shopping.
I carry a nylon bag that folds to smaller than a coin purse. Is very light, doesn’t occupy much space and you can save many plastic bags during any shopping during your flight or on your destination.
Ditch your face wipes
I don’t like face wipes in general, as they are very drying for your skin. But I understand that in case of emergency or in a situation where there is no water or way to clean your face and hands, they can come handy. But If you can avoid use them as much as possible, please do. And if you must use them, please check the biodegradable ones so the impact on the environment is less. If you want travel friendly and still be able to dissolve makeup you can try the Face Halo, cleansing pads that claims to dissolve all makeup from your face using only water – you’ll have to try it to believe it.
Look for multipurpose products
Multi-use products mean less waste, as well as cost. Look for all-in-one make-up sticks that can be used on your lips, eyes, and cheeks. Look for multi-use products instead of buying shower gel and bubble bath, use one for both. Need an exfoliator? Add a teaspoon of brown sugar to your gel. Another bonus you will save space in your luggage.
Pack reusable skincare products containers
Remember that rule that limits 100 ml. Although it’s tempting to buy a mini-bottled version of that shampoo and call it a day, it’s more environmentally sound to buy reusable containers that you can fill up with your favorite product before leaving.
Use you towels as you do it at home
When you are in your hotel, Airbnb, etc. at your destination Reuse your towels and change sheets as you will do at home. This will save water and energy consumption.
Leave a place better than you found it
Respect the rules, put the trash you generated in the right bins and if you are in nature (beaches, parks, etc.) collect your own trash and dipsos it in the appropriate locations. Another tip is if you are in a natural environment like ex: beaches and you see trash, grab a bag a pick the amount you can and dispose it appropriately. You will be helping the environment, paying respect to the place you are visiting and showing an example of the people around you, if at least one copy you that is a win.
I hope this post is helpful and I’m willing to learn more, do you have more tips to share?
